MY STORY

Hi, I'm Sara

Dogs have always been a part of my life. I grew up around dogs and today share my home with my two Cavapoos, Toby and Stella. Over the years, I've fostered, raised, and cared for a wide variety of breeds and personalities, from energetic Huskies and Boxers to sensitive Chihuahuas and Pugs.

My journey into dog sitting began after a difficult boarding experience with my own dogs. Like many pet parents, I left them hoping they would be cared for the way I care for them at home. That experience showed me how important individualized attention, communication, and a calm environment can be—especially for dogs who struggle with anxiety, overstimulation, or separation from their families.

That's why I created The Calm Canine.

As a critical care nurse, I have built my career around attentiveness, trust, communication, and safety. While caring for dogs is very different from caring for patients, I bring those same qualities to every dog in my care. I understand the importance of following routines, administering medications accurately, observing changes in behavior, and keeping owners informed while they're away.

I intentionally keep my dog care small-scale so that every dog receives personalized attention. Whether your dog is a playful puppy, a senior who needs a slower pace, or a nervous dog who benefits from extra patience and reassurance, I strive to provide a calm, loving environment that feels as close to home as possible.

I also understand that every dog is different. Some dogs are happiest having their own private sleeping space, while others prefer to stay close to people. I work with each family to maintain routines and create a comfortable experience tailored to their dog's individual needs.

When your dog stays with me, my goal is simple: to provide the kind of care I would want for Toby and Stella.

MY VALUES

Individualized Care

After experiencing a difficult boarding situation with my own dogs, I realized how important it is for dogs to be treated as individuals—not just another reservation on a calendar.

Every dog has their own personality, routine, comfort level, and needs. Some dogs are energetic and social. Others are shy, anxious, or simply prefer a quieter environment. My goal is to understand what helps your dog feel safe, comfortable, and at ease, and to tailor my care accordingly.

Calm

A calm environment creates confident, comfortable dogs.

Whether I'm taking your dog for a walk, stopping by for a visit, or caring for them overnight in my home, I strive to create a low-stress experience that respects their individual temperament and routine.

I have experience caring for dogs with separation anxiety, nervous temperaments, and dogs who simply need a little extra patience and reassurance.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of everything I do.

As a critical care nurse, I understand the responsibility that comes with caring for someone else's loved one. I bring that same level of attentiveness, communication, and reliability to every dog in my care.

When you trust me with your dog, I understand that you're trusting me with a member of your family.

Communication

I know how reassuring it is to know your dog is doing well while you're away.

That's why I provide regular updates, photos, and videos so you can stay connected and have peace of mind. For dogs staying in a private sleeping area, overnight camera access is also available upon request.

Home, Not a Facility

I created The Calm Canine because I believe many dogs thrive in a home environment.

My goal is to provide the kind of care I would want for Toby and Stella—a place where dogs can feel comfortable, respected, and cared for as individuals.

Whether your dog stays for an afternoon walk, a drop-in visit, or an overnight stay, they will always receive the same level of attention, patience, and compassion.

Safety

Your dog's safety and well-being are always my highest priority.

From secure walks and careful supervision to medication administration and maintaining routines, I believe thoughtful, attentive care helps dogs feel both physically and emotionally safe.

I intentionally keep my services small-scale so I can provide personalized attention and maintain a safe, comfortable environment.
